VOLATL presents (re)chicago afterhours

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 10 2010

(re)chicago Takes Back the Underground with Doc Martin, Mazi and Nathan Drew Larsen

Chicago is recognized around the world for its vital contributions to the development of House music. The city is renowned for musical innovation and solidarity in the eyes of the international electronic-music community. With the combined talents of veteran DJs Mazi and Kate Simko, and promoter Nadia Podolsky, from VOLATL, Chicago will have another opportunity to re-assert itself within this community through a unique, collaborative event dubbed (re.) Chicago, which launched at the legendary “Red Dog” night in April. The event moves to the Chicago’s underground on July 10 with acclaimed producer/DJ DOC MARTIN as the special guest for the evening.

Long one of the most innovative and influential DJs on the West Coast club circuit, Doc Martin began spinning house records in San Francisco in 1986, quickly winning a cult following among warehouse party denizens for his eclectic tastes and skill at mixing the crowd with the music. After several years of masterminding epic eight-hour sets at clubs including Flammable Liquid and Sunday Love, Martin relocated to Los Angeles, where he soon took up residency at the Metropolis. By the mid-'90s, he was also the first West Coast DJ to hold a number of residencies in New York, appearing at clubs including the Roxy, Twilo and the Tunnel. Doc’s tour schedule now finds him appearing around the globe, at renowned venues such as Panorma Bar, in Berlin, Womb in Tokyo, and at San Francisco’s Love Fesr. Doc’s position as one of the most respected and acclaimed House DJs is firmly cemented.

In an effort to expose audiences to the depth of the artistry in techno, minimal and house, VOLATL’s recent events have featured a myriad of genre-defining artists including Stacey Pullen, Marcin Czubala, Bruno Pronsato, Exercise One, Ida Engberg, Konrad Black and Paco Osuna, among others. VOLATL has produced dozens of memorable techno events in Chicago, Detroit, New York, and Miami with a forward-thinking approach to bookings and cutting edge sound systems. Most recently, VOLATL hosted Adam Beyer and Ida Engberg at Spy Bar, launched the (re)Chicago series with Mazi and Kate Simko, and produced “Something in the Sky,” a conceptual event with Jeff Mills and Mike Banks.
